Can you transfer council houses to various regions?

I live in a council house with my 2 young children but due to problems in the area I am wanting to move to a different part of the country. Can I do this|||Yes you can, but you have to do a transfer. The main way of doing this is going on some of the council house transfer sites. Some are free others you need to pay a small amount to join.

As long as you are not in arrears with your rent, not on an introductory or limited tenancy and the swap does not mean you or the people you want to swap with are under or over occupying the property you can do it.|||It's almost impossible to get a transfer in this day %26amp; age, councils make it very difficult. What you can do is go on an exchange list %26amp; swap with someone else. I've moved twice now using this website. http://www.homeswapper.co.uk/ There's usually a small fee to sign up but some councils %26amp; housing associations pay the fee for you.|||Hello Donna,

Yes you can move from one part of the country to another.

Firstly you can place your name on the council waiting list for the area you want to move to, or indeed a Housing Association (HA) waiting list.

Most councils and HAs have a joint list nowadays and once on one list you are automatically entitled to 'bid' for any property you are eligible for.

Another way to move areas is to do a house exchange with someone who wishes to move to your area. There are online sites which cater for this.

My advice would be to contact your local council and the Citizens Advice Bureau. They will be able to give you all the help and information you need.

Devon, where I live, is a wonderful part of the country.
