Don't you think it is funny when people break down the PKK problem into a kurdish struggle for equal rights

People from abroad see no problem in saying "Of these kurds want equal rights, give it to them and get over with it". OK, then I say to them, kurds DO have equal rights, since 85 years, with the declaration of the turkish republic. Then comes the question "They are very poor so bring their area to western standards" I say to that: "Maybe it is because they are a lazy and undisciplined people and await everything from the state, isn't it more logical to compare their status to northern iraq(which is improving thanks to huge amount of money pumped into the region by the US), syria and iran instead of the turkish west? Even italy has disparities between north and south. And we do transfer them funds for social security, free lunch, free money. They still want investment from the state because even their own businessmen are unwilling to invest in the region.

Most kurds want to move to big cities to make it big there, not by living a honest life but being a gangster. These are all facts.|||I'm confused... who said this, "We have to regain the trust of the people. Show them that we care. It is not easy." I think you wrote that about the Kurds.

You really think most Kurds want to be gangsters?

And for those who do, do you think living under the treat of village guards and the PKK and the police has made them see violence as a part of life? Social problems like these don't get fixed over night.

I respectfully disagree with you... but thanks for getting that man on the video links to speak so slowly that even us foreigners can understand; how did you do that?

Addition: I understand you better now. The situation has escalated and there are lots of raw nerves.

BTW the African Americans did break off and form their own country with the help of the American Government, it is called Liberia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberia a little known fact. I live in New Orleans, it is a majority black city, and I often make the comparison in my mind about the similarities to the Turkish Kurdish issue.|||three asterisks out of five? I guess that is the best I can do.

And six thumbs down out of eight and I still get 10 points!

I shouldn't joke now and make light of a serious subject, I just want to have a little fun between the debates.

|||It is beyond funny it is more like ignorance and being uncultured.

It's like today i say aah poor BAsques they wan t equel rights in Spain and I defend ETA for equal rights. Everyone will laugh thinking i am crazy "BAsques have the same rights of everyone in Spain"

It is the same thing for PKK. Kurds have equal rights, all people living in Turkey are equal. PKK is terrorist. People have to understand that.

People have to understand we have Kurds in the parliament, had presidents who were Kurds, a lot of rich actors, singers...

People should stop being fooled by media and their politicians.

edit: all the countries have problems region to region. In Limoges in France i have been to a village where people didn't have water. North of France is different than Paris.

Even in Paris you go to the parallel street of a famous street you'll see a huge difference.

And the suburbs i don't even wabt to talk about the misery people living there.

We saw how US takes care of its people during the disasters.

YOu go to south of Italy or Spain it is a different world.

examples can continue.

The geographical situation of Some Aegean areas are no different than east. But i don't see Aegeans making terrostic attacks.

These PKK people and their supporters make 10 kids or more while in normal families there maximum 2 children, they live in fundamental system. All the help sent from the gouvernment is not given to them because their Aga doesn't want to open their eyes.

It is not a problem that a foreigner can understand. So least they can do is not making false comments.|||Mr. Young Turk your reference books need to be updated on American history. Your version must be at least 50 years old.

Also Americans are aware fully of the PKK and we do not support them. I also know how innocent Kurds have been killed in the process as well as innocent Turks but you fail to mention that in your posts.

When you compare the Iraq war to this situation and you accuse the US of illegally invading of Iraq I can only assume how ignorant all of you are. Unlike your Cyprus illegal invasion we are not occupying there homes and stealing everything they own.

Our main purpose was to end terrorism in the Middle East.

All your accusations of oil and money and control are secondary to what Americans believe is still our primary goal there.

WE have been attacked on our soil to and its very discouraging when your country who knows what its like to be attacked by terrorists degraded us and accused us of being criminals for trying to solve our problems with terrorism in the US.

I do have compassion for the innocents in your country who suffer, but with this agreement between Iraq Kurds and your country hopefully it will end the terrorist attacks coming from the PKK.

Edit: So fantastic loser are you saying you support the PKK?

Well that would only figure, with a name like yours.

Also I would rather represent 2 million people out of 3 million any day opposed to what you represent which is 0.|||Penquin girl: You have misspelled your name :( Boo... By the way, Turkey did not illegally invaded Cyprus. They aided other Turks that are rightful owners of Norther Cyprus in their struggle for survival. They did not steal anything or took away people's homes either... What history books are you reading?

my response to the question: I don't understand the struggle for rights issue either. Turkey hosts many different ethnic groups and religions, and everyone is a Turkish citizen, and every Turkish citizen is granted same rights... Not all Kurdish-Turks are a member of PKK either. And PKK is not a political party, it is a killing machine that even kills Kurds. There are Kurdish-Turks (meaning Kurdish people of Turkey, or Turkish citizens that are Kurds) represented in political parties in Turkey anyway. So I am not also sure why such an agenda is brought up in the international community.|||Read from my folders:

The Demir family home was searched and the whole family was hauled off for interrogation because the Kapici didn't know the correct address and they were the only Kurds in the building and the police found a copy of Le Maniac comic book in the house. (It isn't a crime.) The family was separated, the women (mother and daughter) were held seperately without charges for 48 hours and the men were held for half a day longer, also without charges.

Mr Baycan was beaten beyond recognition for over two weeks, his rectum had to be sewn back together from police torture. His crime, was delivering blankets to Iraqi refugees, women and children who crossed the border after the first Iraq war.

Mr Cihan was kidnapped and held by off duty police officers until his father paid ransom for him. His father was told: You know who we are, you can't go to the police.

Mr Avca was leaving the school cafeteria with a friend when the police jumped him and beat him, He and his friend were held and beaten for two days. He was never charged, the explanation was: mistaken identity. Mr Avca disappeared 3 months later, his family hasn't heard from him in three years. No one knows what happened to him. His classmate is also missing.

These are the rights Kurds get.
