A complaint of discrimination was filed with a state agency, and within days of the HMO my domestic partner works for recieving it they did a forced transfer to a facility 45 minutes further away. He filed a retaliation complaint and within days they demoted him from a job he had done successfully and with positive reviews for over 14 years, and told him he had 24 business days, (August 31st 2006), to find another position in the company or they would terminate him after a total of 28 years of service.
He has been a big advocate for the company, served as a caucus member for the company's diversity conference for years, and helped prepare the paperwork that enabled the HMO to score a 100 with Human Rights Campaign. Original complaint was he tried to transfer to another region and was met with racist remarks (from the HR recruiter!) about him being Latino, his weight at the time and referred to us as "just roommates, not like you are married or something" when moving together was said.|||The National Labor Relations Board, Can and Will put an immediate stop to it, They are a federal department that specializes in that type of issue.
I have had to use them before and they are awesome.|||It comes down to which state you reside in... some states are more open and have clear cut laws regarding domestic partners.
Try calling your local bar association or legal aid society for more info... also findlaw.com is a great site...
